I have always had at LEAST one cat in my life and one time I had six. I am owned by two incredibly “indulged” cats. Miss Bella, who is all black with a white diamond patch on her chest, cool, searing green eyes and a very diva like personality. Her sister and litter-mate, Sele is a complete opposite of Bella. She’s a tuxedo cat and all she wants to do is play, snuggle, eat and sleep. In that order. Why do I love cats so much? It’s their magic and mystery. For ages cats have been connected to the moon and I love the otherworldly side of cats that have taught me about intuition, magic and the feminine Goddess. Especially, Bastet who I have dedicated an altar too. When I figure out how to take better pictures with my digital camera I’ll have many pictures to show and tell. So, I decided I need to write this blog because of my love of cats, all cats and to explore, share and learn more about magic. I’m not a formal witch, in other words, I don’t perform spells as much as I used to, but when I meditate and visualize my cats are there right beside me helping me to focus and channel a magic that is deep and beautiful.
The name of my title comes from two sources. One, is that I have always loved the song, “The Year of the Cats” by Al Stewart. I remember the first time I heard it, I got shivers up and down my spine. I thought it was one of the most enticing and beautiful songs I had ever heard. The second source is I was born in the Year of the Cats. I bet you didn’t know there was a Year of the Cats. In the traditional Chinese New Years, a rabbit is in place of the cat. Not my favorite animal, no offense to rabbit lovers. But the Korean Buddhist’s have the Cat instead of the Rabbit. So when I found out that the Cat was my Asian totem animal, it just clicked and I was thrilled to be born in the Year of the Cat as I’m much more like a Cat than a rabbit! Just because this blog is called “The YEAR of the Cats” doesn’t mean I’ll only be writing this blog for a year, because for me, EVERY year is the Year of the Cat.
My hopes are that you’ll share stories of your cats, cats you have encountered, cats that have owned you, favorite fictional cats, etc…I’m not going to write every blog post concerning my cats, but at least 60% more or less will be centered around cats. I hope you enjoy my blog and I look forward to meeting new friends and getting to know the internet friends I have already made further.
Blessings and purrs to you,
Wendy, Miss Bella and Sele
