blogger is better than wordpress 400x239 Frustrated with Blogger lately? Youre not the only one...

My friends, it is a new day dawning…I’m here to spread the word that Blogger is seriously screwed up, as if you didn’t already know that and I’m not even using Blogger. When I started this blog, I knew that there was no way, I was going to stay on Blogger, because it messed up all the time when I was posting on e-Witch. WordPress.com took a bit to get used to, (and I’m now on WordPress.org which is a self-hosted blogging system), I never looked back and never had any problems.

No, I am in no way affiliated with WordPress or am getting paid to promote their system, I just say “Free the people from Tyranny!” ; ) A few of you tried to leave comments on my post yesterday and were kind enough to leave a comment on my contact form, saying you were having problems leaving comments. Thank you…And this is where I knew it was a Blogger issue, because a reader left a comment with no problem from WordPress.com. Yeah, I know you’re probably getting sick of hearing me go on and on about WordPress.

I have no idea what’s going on with Blogger other than a sneaking suspicion that a group of hackers have managed to get into the Blogger system and seriously screwed around with it. Not that WordPress is perfect but I never had to throw anything at the computer with frustration like I did when Blogger screwed up. I’m pissed because I can’t even leave a comment on a lot of your blogs, so to my friends on Blogger, know that I am trying to leave comments, but it’s above and beyond my control.

I decided (being the kind person that I am ; ) to see what people were saying about their frustrations on Blogger and what people are doing about it.

This post is from one of my favorite blogs (The Blog Herald) and gives you step-by-step instructions on how to move from Blogger to either WordPress.Com or WordPress.Org. And this same post also has links to help you learn more about WordPress etc…

I found a great blog actually out of this whole mess, “Clarissa’s Blog” which I had never heard of before until today. She apparently too was having major issues like most of you are who have a blog with Blogger. I wanted to give you a few links to some of her posts that I thought might be helpful for those of you using Blogger.

This is a really well-written and clear post about the pro’s and con’s of WordPress Vs. Blogger. She has moved from Blogger to WordPress, which some of you may or may not, but it’s good to know the differences.

This post talks briefly about Blogger still screwing up and how others like yourself are going “grrrrrr…..”

And this post is really important for those of you who are thinking about moving from Blogger to WordPress and how to redirect your traffic and links. I did it when I had a WordPress.com blog from Blogger and it was actually quite easy. You don’t lose any posts or comments if you DO decide to move.

And for a little humorous aspect with the latest snafu’s of Blogger, check out this blog post from a cats purrspective.

Perhaps, Blogger will get their act together and you’ll decide to stay on Blogger which would be great. It’s just nice to have options.

About Wendy S.

I'm slightly "mad" with a good shaking of whimsy thrown in for good measure. When I'm not up, I'm down and sometimes if I'm lucky I'm somewhere in between due largely to having Bipolar Disorder and crazy genes ; ) I'm pagan by nature and witch by choice and I have two very beloved and spoiled feline familiars, Miss Bella and her sister, Sele. Am I a crazy cat lady? I'm an introvert in the "real" world but I love meeting new friends especially in the blogosphere where I've been blessed to meet many of you. Please introduce yourself if you'd like so that we can get to know each other better, especially if you have a blog that I can visit. And thank you for flying the friendly skies of United Broom Stick Airlines with me. Hold onto your hat, it's going to be an interesting ride.

    Great Post!
I have been immersed in the world of WordPress for a few years. The Cat From Hell started on WordPress, but I thought I’d try Blogger as it offered a few things that WordPress did not. I started publishing The Cat From Hell on both. Now I am going to quit blogger and stick with WordPress.
    Great Post

You’d think I’d learn but I’ve recently started two more blogs on Blogger…the diet one and just yesterday one for books. I’ve had sporadic trouble with Blogger lately but nothing that has me ready to move just yet. I don’t have anything against WordPress. I’ve had blogs there before and had no problems. I think we stuck with Blogger because of the blog design I wanted to use.

At first it didn’t bother me so much, but now I am ready to pull the blog on blogger. I feel bad not being able to leave comments!!

I switched from blogger to wordpress a couple of years ago and haven’t looked back. It’s much less cumbersome for leaving comments etc and also so much easier for people to subscribe to blogs there.

I think all sites have issues at one time or another.. Have u posted your complaint to Blogger? Whenever I’ve had a problem w/the design, there are people out there willing to help on that site..

Just the thought of a new blog make me shudder.
I had problems with blogger but updates my browser & now have no problems. –

You know, I actually haven’t experienced any of the log-in/log-out or comments issues that so many folks I know have. I know quite a few folks haven’t been able to comment on my blog (or anyone else’s) but so far I’ve been spared from having to throw things at the computer…

The issue with Blogger is their servers, They need more, why? Because everyone ALWAYS checks the box that says keep me signed in. That is not the main reason but, it is a way to fix the issue…log out, and log back in UNCHECK the box that says keep me logged in. It is also important to clean out your cache once in a while, and your register cookies etc. FOR ANY heavy internet use.

Blogger is the MOST generous with storage as far as Images, animation and music goes. Keeping BOTH of these in Mind…remember this past weekend was a holiday weekend. There were BLOG HOPS all over the place, and BLOGGER is the most popular blogging service, so you have millions of people, with hundreds of pictures, and some had playlists going, and also word verification (which in a blog hop both the music, and word verification should be turned off. Everyone is just expecting too much from the servers without realizing what is going on. When their are blog hops, generally there is blog candy, with blog candy, you are generally Mandated to post a comment. That is more work for the servers. THEN on top of that many people make it mandatory to become a follower in order to be eligible for the candy, or to give you a second entry. So clicking Follow, in mass amounts at the same time, also slows down the servers.

If you are a computer/internet person, you need to realize this, it is called TRAFFIC. Just like all the TRAFFIC we had here at the NJ shore because of it being Memorial day weekend. a Normal 10 minute drive to the grocery store becomes a 30 or more minute ride. Then when you get there, they are probably sold out of at least one item, you wanted top purchase.
Just like rush hour traffic. when there are more people moving at the same time, things slow down and do not work as they should, and sometimes there are accidents, fender benders.

Additionally, if any of you play a MMORPGs, such as Everquest or World of Warcraft, do you not get lag during peak hours? or in peak player areas(ex: Origimar)?

I am NOT dissing WordPress, BUT if as many people that use Blogger used wordpress, you’d get the same issues.

Wendy very good post!! Thought provoking and getting people’s attention!

    Blessings and hugs,
    Sue

PS…why are you being a stranger?

  9. Yeah, I too was going to comment yesterday, and found I could not. I’ve realized that one of the reasons I went to WordPress and not Blogger was very personal: on many Blogger pages, there’s no way to subscribe! I’ve got things to get done in my life that have to happen away from the computer, so I’m resistant to any system that, frankly, isn’t made easy for me. Also the forum help community that Blogger is so proud of actually doesn’t contain many tech-savvy folk, so it’s of little help.

Back in the prehistoric era, about 2K, I had my e-mail through a site that updated itself, was very proud of that, let all of us know it was coming, etc. Unfortunately, once it arrived the upgrade prevented everybody from signing in, even if they followed the complex step-by-step instructions given. The site went out of business shortly thereafter. Looks like Blogger’s taking itself down the tube the same way.

  10. Hurray! Today I can comment. Yes, I suspected that Blogger got hacked because usually they give a lot of notice before taking Blogger off-line. This time there was zero, zilch, nada.

  11. avatar Mr Puddy says:

Me and my mom got a lot of trouble from blogger too.
1 ) They suddenly deleted our post and commenting from friends with out warning !!!
what we did ..We went to let them know how bad are they in Twitter
2 ) After they fixed, week later we can’t log out. Me and My mom have our own account but same blog. My mom account is able to change all design and setting or add friends up in our blog roll because she is the main account. and then I can’t sign out so she can’t sign in.
    3) we can’t do some comments for our friends
4 ) in some day, our friends from Word Express just disappear from blog roll
But all of this problem, We still use blogger because mom is lazy to make a new account with word express.
Me and mom think, Blogger or Word Express…As long you are happy with it..It’s all good. Most of my friend know about this problem because we contact each other in FB. as well.So when you can’t make comment for us we know..sometime we do help each other through it by FB. Now look like everything back to normal. We are O.K. with it .

Interesting post, Wendy. I really enjoyed your perspective on it. I know I gripe about the issues with Blogger, but other than that I’ve had mostly no problems with it. I’m a creature of habit – and so I’ll stick by it until I can bear it no longer. LOL

  13. avatar Leila says:

*Sigh* It seems that blogger problems have been increasing. I just can’t face starting a new blog, so I will hang on until the bitter end! All my fav programs are having issues as of late, including Etsy (on the seller end, not buyer end), and I even had to switch browsers. It seems the universe wants me to get off the computer and go play!

  14. Just to clarify about the problems some people are having leaving comments, it actually has nothing to do with Blogger. I use Blogger AND WordPress and have had no problems whatsoever leaving comments.

There seems to be a pattern that those who use Internet Explorer are the ones who are having problems leaving comments.

I got rid of Internet Explorer last Fall and would NEVER use it again. It is a virus infested MESS! I use Google Chrome and have had very few problems with it. Others use Mozilla Firefox (which I have also used but do not care for) and Safari (which I have ever used). If you use those as well you won’t have any trouble leaving comments.

Yes, Blogger has it’s issues. So does WordPress. About 3 weeks ago some people’s accounts on WordPress were hacked and they were unable to use WordPress. They all have their issues.

Since I do use WordPress and Blogger there are things I like about BOTH that the other may not possess. I find Blogger to be much more user friendly for the novice blogger.

    just my two cents worth!
    Have a great day!

I must check out the links you gave – I did set up wordpress, but hell I am having fun and games trying to figure it out… blogger (it’s servers or hackers or whatever) nearly made me put my laptop through the window, and then WordPress did too!!

I thought I should leave it all well alone for a while :O)

Ps – where are the images of the doll you wanted? X

  16. I guess I am just a lazy old broad….or maybe I’ve learned to put up with a lot of crap in 62 years but I haven’t reached the end of my rope with blogger….yet.
