Every Halloween, I take a very special journey to one of my favorite towns, “Twin Peaks“  to visit with some of my closest friends. I’m going to introduce you to them a few at a time because they’re so many of them and they each have their own unique story to share with you. I think you’ll find them as fascinating as I do and if you want to get to know them better, I promise you, your life will never be the same.  I know a lot of you already know them and have visited “Twin Peaks” before, so it will be like one  big happy family-reunion.  Just stay away from “BOB,” and run when I tell you to! I’ll tell you more a little about him later. Below is a picture of him so that you can watch for him and escape if you see him, he tends to lurk in dark corners. I think we’ll be safe though for a little while.

As tonight is Samhain/Halloween, this is the perfect time to meet my first friend from Twin Peaks,  “Laura Palmer.” You see she’s a ghost and as the veil between the living and the dead grows thinner, Laura likes to stop by and giggle with us as she tells us about her life before she was killed. I did tell you that Laura was murdered, right? Oh, I’m sorry. For those of you who are uneasy with restless spirits you may want to come back another time when my other friends from Twin Peaks are here. Laura’s story is pretty sad and full of darkness.  Just please don’t even mention the name “BOB” to her and I think she’ll stay. This is Laura’s  high-school yearbook photo. She’s pretty, isn’t she?

Everyone who meets Laura, loves her right away as she was both kind and beautiful. She volunteered for ”Meals on Wheels,” she was her schools Home-Coming Queen and also tutored a boy who was “mentally challenged.” I mean how could anyone not like Laura? All the girls envied her and all the boys wanted to date her. And she was just SO friendly to everyone which actually often cause her more harm than good.

A bit about Laura’s family… her parent’s are “Sarah and Leland” and they’re one of the towns most respected couples. Mr. Palmer is the  “go-to-attorney” in Twin Peaks, so if you’re visiting and you run into some type of legal tussle, just call him up and tell him I send you. He’ll be sure to give you a good deal, just make sure he doesn’t bring along “BOB” with him. Yeah, he has a few “issues” but who doesn’t right? Unfortunately he and ”BOB” got to know each other too well and some bad things started happening. Let’s meet Laura’s mother.  Sarah  is just the kindest woman you’d ever want to meet. And even though she tends to get a little hysterical at times, she still will give you a ”damn fine cup of coffee” when you visit her. Aren’t they a good-looking couple?

Let me get back to telling you about Laura. Like most popular misunderstood girls, Laura had a bit of a wild-streak. Nothing too extreme, just a bit of the typical teen-age angst. I mean she did tend to snort cocaine once in a while and hung around  a rough crowd at an exclusive club for the discerning gentleman, named “One Eyed Jacks.” Sadly, her “friends” that she met there didn’t have her best interest in heart. But we can forgive Laura, right? Laura was abused as a child and had secrets that no teenager should ever have to suffer with.

Laura always looked so beautiful though, even in her death. She doesn’t want me to tell you how she died, as that’s her story to share with you. So, be kind to Laura when you meet her. She was always looking for that knight in shining armour to save her from the evil and horror she tried to fight off. Laura had a diary that might help you understand her more and then you can talk with her for hours like you two were the best of friends. I might as well show you her picture when they found her lovely corpse, nothing can hurt or bother her anymore.

Can you see her resemblance to the ”fair Ophelia” from “Hamlet?” Actually, Laura told me that Ophelia was one of her favorite fictional characters. How strange and sad the way they both were lost in a body of cold, dark water with no one to revive them with a warm kiss.

Have you met Laura? And if so, what do you like or not like about her? Did she tell you any secrets? If you haven’t met her yet, you can learn more about her when you watch, “Twin Peaks on the DVD’s or sometimes the shows will be running on the odd t.v. channel.” Or better yet as Susan commented, it’s great to rent the movie and series from Netflix or some other similar video business.  I’ll be sure to bring by more of my friends from “Twin Peaks” here for you to meet. Oh and wishing everyone a Samhain full of mystery and wonder. Please light a candle for Laura.

About Wendy S.

I'm slightly "mad" with a good shaking of whimsy thrown in for good measure. When I'm not up, I'm down and sometimes if I'm lucky I'm somewhere in between due largely to having Bipolar Disorder and crazy genes ; ) I'm pagan by nature and witch by choice and I have two very beloved and spoiled feline familiars, Miss Bella and her sister, Sele. Am I a crazy cat lady? I'm an introvert in the "real" world but I love meeting new friends especially in the blogosphere where I've been blessed to meet many of you. Please introduce yourself if you'd like so that we can get to know each other better, especially if you have a blog that I can visit. And thank you for flying the friendly skies of United Broom Stick Airlines with me. Hold onto your hat, it's going to be an interesting ride.

I remember twin peaks, and LOVED IT! it was the first of quirky shows, unless of course you count “Soap”.
Sadly I missed a few episodes right in the middle and that kind of threw my game off. This WAS a show that if you missed 1 episode you were easily “Lost” (my other fav quirky show, though the last 2 seasons, I was very close to giving up on it, and forget that ending) anyway…2-3 episodes missed forget it unless you had a friend that took THOROUGH notes, which I did not.
I’d love to watch it again, perhaps I’ll add it to my netflix queue. I forget how Laura actually died, I know there was a secret place near a railway, right?
Oh well, I’ll be following along with you

Susan, Great minds think alike. And you’re so right about getting lost in the “Peaks” if you miss a show or two. I never thought about renting them from Netflix. Thank you for that suggestion and I’m going to add that to the post. There was a secret place on the rail way, that was so haunting wasn’t it. I’d love to hear if you watch the shows again and look forward to hearing your insights and experiences. I’m slowly going to re-introduce all the villagers of Twin Peaks I think to help those who haven’t seen the shows perhaps be interested and those who saw it and loved it and those who forgot all the mad characters
; ) I hope you have a season full of good health, beautiful times and lots of fun in the blogging world. Thank you for being so understanding and leaving wonderful comments, I DO appreciate them, even if I’m technically challenged ; )

I remember Twin Peaks~~~LOVED the show and LOVED the book (The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer)! !

    • avatar Wendy S. says:

Wasn’t that book just creepy and wonderful? I think that reading the book first was helpful to me in getting to know the set up. Did you ever see the movie “Fire Walk With Me”? When people say they’re scared by all the famous movie killers like “Freddie Kreuger” and “Jason” etc…I think aw, that’s nothing, watch “Twin Peaks” and then tell me if you’re not scared by “BOB” ; )

      • avatar Susan G says:

I did not know there was a book…holy cow! now I’ll have to add it to my reading list!!

Never saw the movie Fire, walk with me…scary huh? Might have to see if that is on netflix also, LOL

        Susan 8O I’s a-feared!!! LOL

The book is very scary and really adds different twists. It’s actually sad because it goes much deeper into Laura’s abuse and BOB. And the movie, really, really interesting and dark ; )

what a great post I love Twin Peaks..one of the best programmes ever and the film Fire Walk With Me was fantastic I have the dvd box set perhaps its time I watched it…looking foward to the other posts!!!

Hi Loopy, it’s so good to hear from you! I watch the whole series this time of the year because the show was so “Fall Like” if you know what I mean. Who was your favorite character? I want to go to a “Twin Peak” reunion where some of the actors who were on the show come to talk with everyone and of course everyone is surrounded by other “Peekers” as I call them. Glad you liked the post and again, I’m interested to know who your fave. character was. I found a fun “Twin Peaks” who would you be online quiz and I’ll put that up on my sidebar so you can go take it and see who you are. It wasn’t any surprise who I was most like ; )

      • avatar loopy says:

I have to be honest I loved Agent Dale Cooper his character was fantastic but he was also gorgeous ;) Laura’s dad always made me chuckle… The quiz sounds great it will be interested to see who I’d be!! I also have something for you on my blog when you get the chance!

        • avatar Wendy S. says:

yeah, “the Coop” was funny and you’re right, gorgeous! I’ve seen Kyle Mc. in other roles like playing “Charlotte’s husband” on “Sex and the City” where he was wonderful, but he was best as special Agent Cooper ; ) I’ll be interested to see who you’re most like on the “T.P.” quiz…

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the look! The way you have the lettering in the header is exactly what I’m looking for. I set up a wordpress acct and blog name….just have to find a look. :)

  5. avatar Jeff Beazley says:

I liked the supernatural characters – the dwarf and the giant. It was that scene in the second episode where the dwarf shimmies across the floor of the Black Lodge (or was it the White Lodge) to the sound of smulchie music, and speaks in that strange voice, that got me hooked in the first place. When the final episode had been broadcast, I made a list of unanswered questions (like what were the owls all about, for example.) There were fourteen.

    • avatar Wendy S. says:

Jeff, I loved the Giant and the Midget too and will be “introducing” them too. Only David Lynch could come up with such a wonderfully bizarre show and didn’t you love Julee Cruz the singer? (I think that’s how you spell her name.) She matched the whole show with it’s trance-like feeling. Oh, you and I are going to have to compare notes about our questions. I have an idea about the owls but didn’t know the number of them. Now that’s interesting. Wouldn’t you just love for D. Lynch to answer all the questions people want to know about the show and movie? Or maybe, he wanted to leave it up to the viewers imagination. Hmmm, I’m going to start writing down my questions though, good idea!

  6. avatar Lyn says:

I’ve never seen a single episode of Twin Peaks. Only recently found out David Duchovny was in it- that might have got my interest ;-) Lyn recently posted..Day of the Phooka meets Day of the DeadMy Profile

    • avatar Wendy S. says:

You’re in for a very wicked ride Lyn, if you choose to be brave enough to watch “T. Peaks.” I think you’ll love it actually, just don’t let your little hobgoblins see it as it’s kind of out there. Although, when Alex (my son) watched it at age 13 he loved it. Hmmm, maybe that’s why he’s turned out so twisted ; ) And I usually am not a fan of D. Duchovny but he was fantastic in “Peaks!” He was one of the most memorable characters actually…

  7. avatar Leila @ Illustrated Ink says:

OMG, “Fire Walk With Me” is one of my favorite movies!! I also have the book, and loved it too.

    • avatar Wendy S. says:

Why does it not surprise me that you like the dark and wickedly surreal like I do ; ) Did you take the “T.P.” quiz I have on my sidebar to see who you were most like? What character did you like best?

  8. avatar Jeff Beazley says:

Julie Cruz! Thanks. I’d forgotten the name. I remember being slightly mesmerised and most impressed with the choice. (Didn’t he use her in Eraserhead?) The scene in which her performance is interrupted by the Giant announcing ‘It is happening again’ was one of the most memorable for me. I used it in a blog post.

I wish I remembered the questions now, Wendy. It’s a long time ago. I was living in a different world then.

I did the quiz, BTW. Dr Jacoby. That’s OK.

    • avatar Wendy S. says:

Oh, you had to remind me of that horrid movie “Eraserhead”, I swear Jeff, I haven’t thought of it in years, mercifully and now I have to see in my minds eye that disgusting worm. I hated that movie. I don’t know what Mr. Lynch was on when he made that, but I can’t stand it. Dr. Jacoby, eh? ; ) Yeah, I can see that, with you being all trippy and wanting to be Laura’s “friend”, ha!

  9. avatar Theresa says:

I LOVED that show! I will admit “Bob” scared the daylights out of me. Once I was staying overnight at my parents’ house and I remember waking up in the middle of the night screaming because I thought I had seen Bob! LOL Now, I hope I can get to sleep tonight because I’ve seen him yet again! Yikes! Theresa

    • avatar Wendy S. says:

Theresa, I think BOB still scares me. Which is why I’m not as frightened as much when I think about the typical monsters like “Freddie Kreuger” and “Jason” from “Friday the 13th.” Lynch created a truly evil person that can appear as a father of one of our friends, a detective that has the brass and armour or someone we’re comfortable with etc…When I watch the show, I honestly have to close my eyes because his laughter was so scary. Don’t worry, I won’t let BOB get you! Did you take the “Which character are you from Twin Peaks” I have on my sidebar? I love hearing who’s getting who ; )
