Last night, as I was sleeping,
I dreamt — marvelous error!—
that a spring was breaking
out in my heart.
I said: Along which secret aqueduct,
Oh water, are you coming to me,
water of a new life
that I have never drunk?
Last night, as I was sleeping,
I dreamt — marvelous error!—
that I had a beehive
here inside my heart.
And the golden bees
were making white combs
and sweet honey
from my old failures.
Last night, as I was sleeping,
I dreamt — marvelous error!—
that a fiery sun was giving
light inside my heart.
It was fiery because I felt
warmth as from a hearth,
and sun because it gave light
and brought tears to my eyes.
Last night, as I slept,
I dreamt — marvelous error!—
that it was God I had
here inside my heart. (“Last night, as I was sleeping” by Antonio Machado.)
This is my dream journal, created with love and magick over fifteen years ago. Images are peeling from use, Glinda and The Wicked Witch have faded a little and Frodo looks a little tired, Captain Jack Sparrow looks inquisitively at me wondering what he is doing trapped on my book, while the rest of my dream guardians are quiet and still, knowing they have important work still to do. This is just the front of my book, the beginning of my journey into the Dreamtime.
I’ve never been disciplined enough to maintain a Grimoire or a Book of Shadows, but the magic runs deep and it’s important for me to honor the Gods and Goddesses as I record my dream memories into my journal. Even if I don’t record every dream I have word by word, I dash off a phrase, an image, a feeling or a fleeting thought that tugs at my heart.
I could talk about the theories of why we dream and the technical aspects that are interesting but that’s not what I’m aiming for here. To me, dreaming, is a part of the Great Mystery that needs to be tended to with great reverence, curiosity and wonder. Even if we’re plagued by the Night Mare as she thunders through our dream landscape frightening us with her breath of fire and coal black eyes. She’s still a sacred messenger that needs to be listened to with caution and care.
This is where I would like your help and wisdom. Each week I will post an image that has shown up in a dream I’ve had during the week. I don’t like to use text-book dream definitions as I feel that would do a disservice to those who visit us at night. They have their own voices and gather closer to us as we let our intuition and psyche speak. When I post this image, if you would honor me with your immediate thoughts, associations, soul-wisdom and inner-wisdom that immediately comes to you if you choose to comment, I would really appreciate it.
I believe what the dream of one person is a strand from the great dream-web that connects all dreamers together and it’s a gift when we share our visions. Our ancestors used to gather around the fire and tell each other their dreams in a sacred manner. I’ve always had a great longing for a tribe like this. Maybe by posting my dream images, we can resurrect our ancestors dreams as they once did.
This week, I’ve dreamt a lot about actors, one in particular that stands out. I would love to hear what your first thoughts and feelings are as opposed to telling me how you think they relate to me. Even if you don’t know the actors I’ll post about, how do you feel when you see the image? What comes to your mind? If you do know their work, how does this person resonate or not resonate with you?
Adrien Brody is the actor, who visited me in a dream this week. I don’t remember the details of the dream, which is o.k. because as I said, sometimes we’re meant to remember a feeling, a quick snapshot or a memory that waits to be unpacked. I do know that he made a strong impression and left a longing in my heart for him when I woke up.
The next time, I post a different dream image, I’ll share with you how I connected to him and the gifts and insights he gave to me.
I would love to see others share on their own blogs a dream image, poem, phrase, and/or feeling that’s spoken to them. And then we can visit each others blogs and bless each other by sharing our own feelings and thoughts about the dream posted. We could form a new Dreamtime tribe together.
Again, I would be really honored if you would like to share with me the first thoughts and feelings you have about the actor, the images or your own associations you have with them. And if there isn’t any thoughts that come to your mind about Adrien Brody, that’s fine too. If you would like to comment about something else that struck you in this blog, I would love to hear that too.
Wow, what great comments! It’s been really interesting and fun to hear your responses about not just Mr. Brody ; ) but also the idea of posting a dream image you’ve had on your blogs. I think what I’m going to do, is every Thursday, I’ll post my dream image, poem etc…and then have a Mr. Linky widget in the blog post. And if you’d like to share a dream image with us all, you can leave a link to your post and we’ll visit you. You’ll see it next week and it’s really easy to sign up for. I can’t wait to see your Dreamtime snapshots.
One more thing, for people who are relatively new to working with dreams, I HIGHLY recommend this book, “Inner Work: Using Dreams and Active Imagination for Personal Growth” by Robert Johnson. When I was in my masters program I learned about this book quite a few years ago. I re-read it over and over again. It’s great for all people and their experience with dreams. Very reader-friendly, spiritual without being religious and extremely inspiring.
Thank you again everyone for your input!

“Sensitive” and “deep” are the first two thoughts that sprang to mind about Adrien Brody. And that Machado poem is one of my faves!
Debra She Who Seeks recently posted..Oh- Four Tuna
Good words to describe him, Debra…You and I share very similar tastes in the poets and poetry we like.
The first time I saw Adrian was in the movie SLC Punk. And I fell in love with him.
He comes off a very intelligent man and In my mind I see him as Sensitive. He’s not particularly gorgeous. But He’s still somehow good looking. Like a diamond in the rough.
Oh wow, I saw that movie, AGES ago with Matthew Lilliard, right? I don’t remember Adrien from that. Did you see that movie about the “Son of Sam” by Spike Lee? That’s where I first saw Adrien. I agree with you about him not being the typical Hollywood “hottie” but to me, that makes him more intriguing. I like the “rough diamonds.”
LOL I’m a dumb ass. I dunno why I said SLC punk. It was Summer of Sam. and he was the american punk who came back from Britain all decked out, accent and all.
However (LOL) SLC punk was awesome to. Cause Matthew lillard is amazing. But totally not what I had meant in the first place.
Weird. Well atleast we know we both watch the same movies hehe

I don’t think it’s so weird that we watch the same movies, Jamie-Lyn, lol…We both have the same warped sense of humour. I haven’t seen M. Lilliard in movies for a long time. Wasn’t A. Brodie gorgeous in the “Son of Sam” movie? It’s interesting that the movie didn’t get great reviews, but I thought it was so well made.
WoW i’m jealous of your dream journal Johnny Depp? Oh yeah i would probably write in my dream journal more often if he was in it LOL i think this is a wonderful idea, and one of many I think i will be posting on soon, as for Adrien Brody i know who he is but i have never seen one of his movies so my impressions are unbiased hopefully: soulful, passionate, deep love and longing (not sure why) and confidence. there is love and laughter there, Idk those are what I got when I looked at him, particularly the piano pic. this is a wonderful post and I can’t wait to do mine
blessed be

Aisha, I think it would be great for you to make your own dream journal. And it’s funny that I really like Mr. Depp but I’m not as crazy as most people are. I think his acting skills are amazing. I love the words you used to describe Adrien. Now just have to look for someone who matches those qualities. Not Adrien himself, as he’s more of a symbol to me. That photo where he’s playing the piano is from a movie called “The Pianist” about a man who was a Jew in WWII and he won and Oscar for that role. If you believe, I still haven’t seen that movie.
I am planning on making one of these, I just told my7 daughter that today. WOW!
anyway, when I saw Adrienne Brody, I immediately thought of “The Village” and how he wasn’t a “whole” person, but he was whole enough to know he loved that girl and acted on that, even if he did it the wrong way. Not sure if that helps you or not. I need some help also, and this feels like a good opportunity to ask.
I have to ask a couple of questions ANYONE can answer me….I am so new on this pagan path I am choosing.
The poem you put up was lovely, but mentions God coming into your heart, sounded like the monotheistic God (spelling) and I see you have the “Star of David” on your dream journal
Is there a healthy way to mix paganism with monotheism?
What are the very basic tools I need to begin on my Pagan path?
are there places online that you would recommend for purchases, at inexpensive prices?
I have found a few etsy shops and have started gathering essential oils, I got a sage smudge and a white sage smudge, a mortar and pestle (on it’s way), 3 small clear crystals, are these good or am I heading in the wrong direction?
thanks and hugs,

Oh, you’d be great at making a dream journal, Sue as you’re really into scrapbooking and are very creative. You posed some really good questions and instead of answering it here, I’m going to make a post of it, so that people can respond to it. Great thoughts though. I loved the movie “The Village!” I was just telling my therapist about that movie two days ago and she has never seen it. So many people hated it, but I don’t think they fully understood it. He and Joaquin Phoenix and Ron Howards daughter were all amazing in it. And I think you hit something on the head thinking about it, as I was thinking of that movie two days before I had the dream with him in it. Thank you : )
I made a comment, Wendy, but forgot to enter the code. When I went back, the message had gone. Maybe it wasn’t meant to be.
Oh Jeff, I would love to have read your comment. A lot of people I know have been upset not just with WordPress and the comments getting deleted but everywhere on the internet, it’s SO frustrating to fill out forms, etc…and then they get deleted for some reason. I’m going to be doing a “techy” post about Firefox (a web browser which is my favorite and they have a plug in that saves any text you fill out on any type of form if it gets deleted. I still would love to hear your comment though. He would have been perfect in “Twin Peaks” wouldn’t he?
What a lovely dream journal you have! It has Jack Sparrow and Jack & Sally – how wonderful is that?
Adrien Brody, eh? Brooding and mysterious. Intelligent and dark. Just some random thoughts. I hardly ever dream of celebrities any longer. I cannot remember the last one I had! It might have involved Vampire Bill, however. LOL Theresa
Theresa recently posted..Getting Ready for the Holidays!
You and I have so much in common, Theresa it’s amazing with who we like. I bet like Sue you would make an incredible dream journal as you’re so artistic. Like the images and qualities you connected with A. Brody. You dreamed about “T.B.’s” Bill? Wow, I’m impressed. I’ve invited Eric the Northman into my dreams but he hasn’t made an appearance yet ; )
aaaah, Eric, the tough on the outside, very vulnerable on the inside hottie vamp!!! I am sooo with you on that!

Eric has made his invite for my dreams. A few times. Alexander Skarsgård is super fine. That man is one tall glass of water. Ohh how he makes my dreams worth while.

NOT fair, that you’ve dreamed about Eric/Alexander ; ) Have you seen that other HBO series he’s been in about the war? Part of me doesn’t want to ruin my fantasies about him, lol…Send him over to my dreamtime next time he visits you. I saw an interview with him and he’s as opposite as Eric which is so funny. He’s very out-going, silly and modest. How he can be modest looking like that, shows he’s not only an incredible actor, but how beautiful he really is, sigh….
I don’t know that I’ve ever seen anything Adrien’s been in. If I have, I don’t remember it. My first thought…for whatever it’s worth or means….a crow.
Stacy Lynn recently posted..A Little Peace of Mind
Oh that’s really interesting, Stacy!!! A crow…I have a lot of connections and thoughts about Crows and I like to relate people to animals. Really like your association!!
Introspective was the first word that popped into my head. Second was secretive.
Love this idea!! I don’t remember a lot of my dreams but when I do remember them it is because they were profound in some way. I would love to start a dream journal, think it is a great way to see into yourself and what is on your mind, of sort.
May your day be filled with smiles and blessings!!!
Having a dream journal has been a really amazing process for me, Julia. Esp, the messages that add to my magickal path. I would love to see your dream journal and also I’m going to list some online dream journals that are out there for people who might be more comfortable with that form. And if you don’t remember a whole dream, I’m also going to post about ways to remember your dreams, even if they’re just snippets.
Wendy,
Instead of thinking of what the actor has been in (which is often good) I will tell you my first thought at seeing his picture. I thought “SPRITE”. I couldn’t tell you why, but that was the message loud and clear. So whatever is sprite like in your life right now, or if something sprite-like enters your life, pay close attention.
Also I would love to post about dreams and dream interpretation. I would set up to do a weekly post, but lately my dreams are not that well remembered often due to my pain. I will post when I have an image though.
Blessings
Faerie Sage recently posted..Truth 18
A Sprite!!! Wow, yeah, he does remind me of a Sprite too. You’re extremely intuitive so that’s a really interesting image that came to you. I’ve never thought about a Sprite connected to him and the root of Sprite is Spirit! And like I told Julia, it doesn’t have to be every dream you remember or the full details. In the book I mentioned in the post, the author was working with someone and the person just remembered a sponge and from that, free-association was applied and the dream took off in all new dimensions. I hope you do participate in Dreamtime Thursdays : )
Wendy
I would love to do Dream-time Thursdays! Thanks for your comments on truth 19. We may have to postpone our weekly chat until next week as Mr. H’s Dad is here visiting from Germany. Two weeks visit in one year is all they get, so we are really busy. But let me know when you’ll be available and we can attempt to set something up! Yay so excited!
Faerie Sage
PS I do believe in the legal system, but as an empath I have to be careful during the 30 post of truth to only deal with my own healing and not take on the healing of the country!
Blessings on you and your kitties!
Faerie Sage recently posted..Truth 18
Oh no problem, Faerie-Sage with the chat. This month and the next whole month are flurries of business and family. I know we’ll chat when the time is right. And when you get more “settled” we’ll set up our chat date ; ) I so hear you about being an empath and absorbing energy, esp. what’s going on in our world. I can’t watch the nightly news as it seeps into my mind and soul too much in a very disturbing way. I do love watching “Keith Olbermann and Rachael Maddow.” If I need important info. that’s where I go to learn more about the world.
I interpret dreams of others by listening to the story of their dreams, in their own words. If you tell the story of your dream (without analyzing it – just the story) I would be happy to take a shot at interpretation!
Aine recently posted..Philosophical Friday
I agree with you, Aine that interpretation with the story is a wonderful way to really hear a dream. I’ve found lately that I only remember a feeling or image or some other elusive snippet of my dream, which is why I posted the photos of Adrien Brody. I’m sure you know about Jungian’s term “Collective Conscious” which is why I put it out to other people to see how they connected to both the actor and the images. It’s not so much for me and interpreting it, more than it is to open up doors to others and their intuitive selves and then I’ll share what I learned about the image, feeling, poem, etc….
Hhhmmm…. Interesting. I am not familiar with Adrien Brody nor his work. But the first thoughts that came to mind in seeing his images here were conceit, shifty, not to be trusted. I really seem to be off from everyone else…LOL Maybe I’m just showing my age ….
Interesting concept about dreams… Dreams for me have always been very personal and prophetic.
Jeanne Gripp recently posted..A visit to a bawdy-house
hmm, sounds like your swimming in the collective unconscious! I have been reading a lot of Jung as of late! sadness and humor are the first words that come to mind, Mr. Brody is a deep well of sadness and playful humor.
I’ve been having stuff control issues in my dreams as of late, sometimes it is my stuff that I must get control of, sometimes it is my youngest daughters. and she is much younger than she is now we are in an airport/bus terminal/grocery store?
there are others who wander in and out of the dreams but I can’t remember who they are. and they are of minimal help to outright obstruction.
whether this is mental stuff or material stuff I’m not sure of. but I’m left with the feeling of frustration and impotence.
Flora Goodson recently posted..new deck and an idea
Oh Flora you and I are going to have to talk more about Jung. Have you studied a lot about him? My fave. book by him that I re-read slowly over and over is “Memories, Dreams and Reflections.” have you read that one? And you nailed it on the head when I was talking about the “collective unconscious.” I just know most people wouldn’t know that term and I will definitely talk about Jung and how he worked with dreams. I was telling my therapist about this post and she said, “did you write about archetypes and tell them that Adrien was an archetype?” And I smiled and replied, “You know Jung said, thank god, I’m Carl Jung and not a Jungian” ; ) And I think you nailed it right on the head with Adrien being a contradiction of sadness and humour. To throw out another Jungian belief, “he holds the tension of the opposites.” I’ll be interested to hear who or what makes an appearance in your dream. And have you read the Robert Johnson book I mentioned. He’s a wonderful Depth-oriented psychologist who really makes dream work so accessible and fascinating.
Adrien Brody as an actor to me is quirky, quietly sexy and intense. About four years ago, I went to a party down in the meatpacking district innew York and ran into him. He was so laid back and cool looking in person.
I dream about actors. I especially dream about Mark Hamill and Gerard Butler many times . I often wonder if sometime I pop up in their dreams and they are like who is that black woman who keeps showing up in my dreams.
Maybe Adrien has dreamed about you too.
Oh, I think I’d be tongue-tied if I met Adrien. He seems like a chill person and like the actors you and I like, M. Clift and J. Dean, a rebel that goes against the hype of Hollywood. How interesting that you dream about Mark and Gerard, what a combo. Shell! lol…I don’t think they’d ask who is this black woman that keeps showing up. I think they’d say, “ahhh, a goddess has graced us with her presence.” And it’s really interesting you say that about Adrien dreaming me. I was once at an airport I think it was San Francisco and I heard the ticket counter woman talking to a friend. And the friend said, “Oh I had this wonderful dream about Bob Marley, last night.” And the ticket counter woman who had this beautiful Jamaican accent replied, “You know today is his birthday and we would say, back home he is dreaming of you!” So, perhaps the people that we dream of, famous or not, DO dream of us. Now, I just have to wait for Adrien to come woo me ; )
