“Girl Crush”
Feelings of admiration and adoration which a girl has for another girl, without wanting to shag said girl. a nonsexual attraction, usually based on veneration at some level.
“I have a girl crush on a girl from a band. she can sing, she’s GORGEOUS, she’s doing an awesome degree and she’s intelligent. I want to BE her!”
(Definition from “Urban Dictionary“)
One of the blogger’s I admire and enjoy the most in the blogosphere is Debra from “She Who Seeks.” Most of you know her and love her like I do and if you don’t have the pleasure of knowing her, stop by her blog and say “hi”and I think you’ll immediately understand why I like her so much.
For the whole month of June, Debra is having a “TRANSLESBIGAYAPALOOZA!” theme to honor the “LGBTQ community” and even though I am a heterosexual woman, I certainly feel it’s important to not only recognize the LGBTQ community but to celebrate them as well. So, it is within this lighthearted and fun spirit I pay homage to my top five celebrity “grrl crushes.”

1.) Monica Bellucci
Why I like her: she reminds me of rich dark chocolate with her sensuality, luscious body, and subtle bites on life and love. I love her Italian no-nonsense outlook on life, her earthiness and her ability to be a mother, talented actress, and sex goddess with grace and humour. She’s a great model to all of us women, who fear that after a certain age we’re no longer desirable or deserving of second looks by men or women. Yummm….
If she were an animal, she would be: an Arabian Mare.
If she were a perfume, she would be: Demeter Perfume Scent; “Sex on the Beach”
Scent your skin and your personal space with the sexy scent of a sweet, summer cocktail. “Demeter’s- Sex On The Beach” is the wearable version of the Sex on the Beach Cocktail, a sensory sensation—an inviting and refreshing combination of Vodka, unsweetened pineapple juice, a touch of raspberry liquor, a hint of melon liquor, and a splash of cranberry. This fragrance is so alluring and compelling it should carry a warning label.
Notes: Vodka, Pineapple Juice, Raspberry, Melon, Cranberry.
Style: Exciting. Seductive. Naughty.
My favorite movie she’s been in: Brotherhood of the Wolf
Favorite Quote by her:
“I know many beautiful people and their lives are just so terrible. They feel so uncomfortable with themselves. Being comfortable is not about what you look like, but how you feel.”

2.) Cate Blanchett
Why I like her: Witty, versatile and sharp, she’s the kind of woman I would want to sit and talk to all night about philosophy, interesting books, famous women in history and how to stay strong and centered when you’re feeling anything but…She’s also fascinating, beautiful and complex, my kind of woman.
If she were an animal, she would be: an Owl.
If she were a perfume, she would be: “Burberry Classic”
Since its launch in 1996, “Burberry Classic” has become a classic. Fresh and clean, with an ephemeral harmony somewhere between sparkle and calm.
Notes: Black Currant, Green Apple, Peach, Jasmine, Sandalwood, Cedar, Vanilla.
Style: A clean and sensual fragrance.
My favorite movie she’s been in: Elizabeth
Favorite Quote by her:
“If I had my way, if I was lucky enough, if I could be on the brink my entire life – that great sense of expectation and excitement without the disappointment – that would be the perfect state.”

3.) Angelina Jolie
Why I like her: She’s one bad-ass chick gone good. She used to carry knives, indulge in hedonistic love affairs, and play outrageous, controversial characters. She’s still tough but now is an extremely devoted mother, a loving partner to a not-so-bad-looking man
and carries the flame for humanistic and liberal causes. She’s also an open-admirer of both beautiful men and women and has no problem talking about her sexuality which has been deemed shocking by many. What’s not to like?
If she were an animal, she would be:
If she were a perfume, she would be: Pucci Acqua 330
Carefree and lighthearted, “Pucci Acqua 330″ leads you into the cool Mediterranean Sea to explore the depths and relax in the shallows. This free-spirited, marine-floral fragrance carries a touch of salt and an undeniable freshness. Violet leaf makes a graceful introduction. Aquatic accord enters with a cool splash and mingles with jasmine and frangipani flower, gently evoking their salty facets. A sensual musk base note gives a lasting vibrancy to savor.
Notes: Violet Leaf, Bitter Orange, Pink Berry, Aquatic Accord, Egyption Jasmine, Frangipani Flower, Musk, Tonka Bean, Moss.
Style: Fresh. Carefree. Graceful.
My favorite movie she’s been in: “Mr and Mrs. Smith”
Favorite Quote by her:
“I always play women I would date.”

4. ) Emma Thompson
Why I like her: We all need girl-friends like her in our lives who will sit with us when our heart has just been broken, hold us with compassion and gentleness, eat gallons of decadently rich ice-cream in hopes of drowning out our sorrows, commiserate about how life can be so unfair when we gain a pound or two or three…and laugh with us when the sun is finally breaking through the storm clouds.
If she were an animal, she would be: a Golden Retriever dog.
If she were a perfume, she would be: “Fresh Laundry” by Clean
“Clean Fresh Laundry” captures the familiar just-pulled-from-the-dryer smell of perfectly laundered linens. With just a few sprays, this irresistible, fresh and crisp scent will embrace and comfort you just like your favorite white t-shirt.
Notes: Brazilian Orange, Mexican Lime, Fresh Mown Grass, Cyclamen, Rose Otto, Night Blooming White Jasmine, Petals, Heliotrope, Musk.
Style: Irresistible. Crisp. Fresh.
Favorite movie she’s been in: “Love Actually”
Favorite Quote by her:
“If you’ve got to my age, you’ve probably had your heart broken many times. So it’s not that difficult to unpack a bit of grief from some little corner of your heart and cry over it.”

5.) Lena Olin
Why I like her: when I first saw her in the movie “The Unbearable Lightness of Being” I thought to myself; who IS she? She had charisma like I’ve never seen and an obvious intelligence that was like a beam of light. She’s played everything from seductresses, crazy women, housewives and a woman who was a victim of domestic violence in another favorite movie of mine; “Chocolat.” She just seems to have it together, although if she were to hear my projections of her, might laugh with deep amusement and shake her head as if to say she struggles with the best of us and is too human all the looking like the gorgeous goddess she is.
If she were an animal, she would be; a She-wolf.
If she were a perfume, she would be: “Samsara” by Guerlain”
Jean-Paul Guerlain was so moved by a woman whose inner beauty evoked a serene sensuality, he created a perfume just for her – “Samsara.” A fragrance that embraces and intoxicates, it is a seductive oriental made for a woman who conveys harmony and spirituality. Jasmine combines with the warmth of sandalwood, while powdery and vanilla notes magnify this blend.
Notes: Jasmine, Sandalwood, Rose, Narcissus, Vanilla.
Style: Envelop yourself in this spellbinding and harmonious aura.
My favorite movie she’s been in: “The Unbearable Lightness of Being”
Favorite Quote by her:
“I’ve always made a point to do things that people wouldn’t expect me to do because I think there is danger in becoming the big actress, the star, because then you have things to protect, and there’s no way you can work as an actor protecting things.”
So, come on and admit it, who do YOU have a “grrl crush” on?
Ending on a more serious note; I think it’s vitally important that we do everything we can to support Gay Rights whatever your sexual orientation happens to be. Here’s a link to a great website where you can find out more information on how to support the “LGBTQ” community.

Great choices, W! All of them intelligent, smart, sensual women.
I pay so little attention to celebrities that I fear I have no list. Sad, innit.
Vivienne, the fact that you had the hots for Keith Richards MORE than makes up for the fact that you don’t really “pay attention” to celeb’s ; )
Thanks for the linky luuuv, Wendy! *mwah* Your grrl crushes are all great picks, but let’s not forget former sirens of the silver screen like my personal faves Ingrid Bergman, Marlene Dietrich, Joan Crawford, Elizabeth Taylor . . . .
You’re most welcome my friend…And if we’re going to go the route of silver screen women, I would have to say Natalie Wood and Rita Hayworth, but I almost want to save them for another Top 5 Post because they’re a category unto themselves. So, who would your modern day gurrl crushes be? ; )
Lovely, intelligent, interesting women, all. I can only think of two girl crushes for myself…Jamie Lee Curtis (I totally want to be her when I grow up) and Sandra Bullock, who I think would be the ultimate bestie.
I love Jamie Lee and Sandra Bullock too, Stacy! You seem to like the funny down-to-earth goddess’ like yourself : )
Some great choices.
While I think Angelina is sexy, I’ve heard conflicting info on mothering and her centeredness, but who knows.
I would go with Sandra Bullock, Pauley Piroette(NCIS),SHOHREH AGHDASHLOO(she is arabian or something, and has a wonderful smokey voice), Ashley Judd, and Kirstie Alley as she got BIG and dealt with it in the limelight…like me without the limelight. All of these women seem very grounded and “normal” for lack of a better word, and they are Intelligent and Humanitarians.
I’ll go further and say 5 that are no longer with us…Eleanor Roosevelt,Abigail Addams,Mary Cassatt,Jane Goodall,Anne Boyelyn. Intelligent women, who stood strong for their beliefs, and aided the world in some way.
I think Sandra, Ashley and Kristie would or could be my friend. It is a nice thought to have
Blessings,
Susan
Oh, Susan you have good taste…I don’t watch NCIS but now you’ve made me really curious about Pauley P. and I’ve never head of Aghdashollo either…I’m going to google them. How do you find such exotic women? And your other women like Eleanor and the others are all amazing…Esp. Jane Goodall. I think I’d have a top five for women who I want to be when I grow up ; ) And Kirstie is a role model for all of us women who aren’t Barbie Dolls, whooo hoooo!
I agree – good choice, beautiful and talented women. I love this post!
Your new banner looks gorgeous – very sexy indeed.
Hope you have a great weekend.
These are such excellent choices!!!
I would probably add Tina Fey, Helen Mirren, and Nicole Kidman to the list. I like that you selected smart, elegant and beautiful women.
It’s so funny the women you chose which doesn’t surprise me Theresa as great minds think alike ; ) I thought of Helen Mirren and both Nicole and Tina Fey who makes me laugh so hard every time I see her and of course won my heart with her Sarah Palin imitations. I loved them so much, it almost makes me want to have Sarah run again just so that Tina will do more parodies of her ; )
I’ve always loved Emma Thompson! Great picks!
Oh yeah, I love this post! Most of my favorites are from the 30′s and 40′s… Vivien Leigh, Carole Lombard, Jean Harlow… I do love Sandra Bullock and Meg Ryan!
By the way ~ adore your header!
Hugs))
Hi Laurie,
I knew you would love the header and as a matter of fact my good friend Lyn is running a contest and giving away a free blog header for either Blogger or WordPress and I’ll be posting about it soon : )
Debra also commented on the Silver Screen Goddess’ and your choices are exquisite! I love Natalie Wood and Rita Hayworth and it’s really interesting that quite a few women want S. Bullock as a girl friend which I agree on as she’s so earth and seems really loyal and loving.
