“Our perfect companions never have fewer than four feet.” ~writer,Colette~
Good morning, everyone or afternoon/evening as the case may be. I know I haven’t been blogging as much these last few weeks as I’m still dealing with medical issues and Dr. appointments which have left me completely drained. You know what the best medicine has been for me?
Guess? my cats, of course. I don’t need to tell those of you who are owned by pets of any type, how healing their love and devotion is. When I need a break from the sometimes overly intellectual world of humans, I love to read animal blogs and there are some amazing one’s out there that I get so much pleasure in.
So, with the girls (Miss Bella and Sele for those who haven’t met them yet) help, I’m going to start beginning today, giving you a weekly round up of my five favorite pet/animal blogs and specific posts I’ve really enjoyed and think that you might too.
Like all of us, I was left in horror and great sorrow as I watched the scenes from Japan and the earthquake which devastated not only humans but their pets as well. One of my great fears is when an earthquake which will cause a lot of destruction here in Southern California, I’ll either be away from my cats or I won’t be prepared to help them.
- Leanne from “Cottage Tails” has been posting about how she and her family are making Emergency DIY kits and today she posted about making one for her beloved cats.
We may not be able to prevent a natural catastrophe, but we can take measures to help us feel a little more in control and safe. So, check out how Leanne and her family are going to take care of their pets.
- One of my favorite cat blogs is “Love Meow.” Not only does the site have wonderful and informative content about cats, but each time someone leaves a comment, 5 cents is donated to various pet charities. You can read more about the donations work and the organizations that are chosen here.
Since the earthquake in Japan struck, Love Meow has been writing and updating the information that has been coming out of Japan concerning peoples pets. They have a fantastic post about how to contribute to the ongoing animal rescue efforts here.
(I know that money is tight for everyone, but even a dollar donated to the organizations working in Japan for the animals makes a difference.)
And please know that I am deeply concerned about all the human victims from the Japanese earthquake as well. I am just wanting to let everyone one know about how to help out the animals as well.
- Yesterday a large “blog hop” (you can read about what a blog hop is here.) was being held by pet blogger’s all over the blogosphere to raise awareness about the ongoing efforts to help out both animals and people in Japan. The “Cat Blogosphere” is one of the blogs I read daily to find out what’s going on pets and the people they’re owned by and if you don’t know about the site yet and love animals, definitely check it out.
If you want to read more about the different blogs that were participating in yesterday’s “Raise awareness for Japan’s animals” as well as visiting the “Cat Blogosphere” you can click on this link.
- As important as the Japanese earthquake is, I need to take breaks from all that’s been going on. And “While Walking Duncan” is just the blog to help me do it. “Duncan” is a Golden Retriever who is written about with such love and eloquence by the human he owns named Curt, as well as the other furry siblings he shares his life with.
Curt is a true poet and I keep hoping he’ll write a book someday as I’m just in love his writing and the bonds he shares with his fur family. Every post he writes is just so lyrical and beautiful. For instance in his latest post, he wrote:
“This was the day the sky was still brilliant blue when we walked in the park and the wind played with the few white fluffy clouds, coursing over and around them, smoothing them out and laying them flat like fresh linens settling onto a bed. And down where we walked, the wind––if it could be called that, for it was little more than a precocious breeze––was warm and soft, barely stirring the newly greening grass, caressing us as it passed over, its fingers tip-toeing across us and brushing the back of our necks like the familiar caress of a lover playing.”
With all the heaviness that’s been going on in our world, I took a deep breath of contentment as I read Curt’s post and was able to escape into a world that reminded me of how precious life is and that despite tragedy, there’s beauty to be found in animals and nature as well.
- Cats can be very silly sometimes and I know my own amuse me for hours. “Mr. Puddy” is a cat I was introduced to quite a long time ago, as I stumbled upon his blog one day and each day, I look forward to reading and seeing what Mr. Puddy is up too.
Mr. Puddy shares his daily life with us and regales us all with his latest adventures. He has quite the cattitude and leaves me laughing every morning. I can’t imagine a morning now without visiting Mr. Puddy. Also, my “girls” are quite infatuated with him. If you’d like to meet Mr. Puddy and enjoy him as much as I do, you can read his latest post here.
And now to announce the winner for the latest giveaway that the girls held, the winner is…

Now I’m here dying of pure pet-envy *sigh* I miss my kitty. But my Amores is happy with the mommy who adopted him when I left the Midwest–they didn’t allow furry babies in my New York apartment. But I’m moving in a month and one of my requirements is pet friendly or leave it! I’ll be here reading your blog with my furry love.
P.S. I’ve snatched your lovely button
