I was a sad little girl lost in a home full of sadness, fear and darkness, but when the sun did come out and shone on me, you could always find me either playing with my pets, waiting for Summer to begin, swimming in the ocean waves pretending I was a mermaid or if I was at home, skimming all the t.v. channels looking for a Shirley Temple movie that was on.
Whenever I watched little Shirley dance and sing (my favorite dance scene of hers is with the amazing late actor/dancer Bill Robinson) I completely forgot about how unhappy I was and would feel like I was skipping along with Shirley and smiling with her. I know that a lot of people consider Shirley Temple, “too sweet” or cutsey, but to me she was like a sparkly happy fairy that I was drawn to.
I’d forgotten how much I loved Shirley since I’ve grown up, but when I first saw the new Target commercial with the song “Early Bird” sung by Shirley Temple in the background, (originally from the movie “Captain January,”) it all came back to me, how much I loved her and how she made me feel.
This morning is one of those type of days that just sparkles…A perfectly, Shirley Temple kind of day, you know where everything glows and seems brighter than it usually is. As much as I complain about living in Southern California because of the bland seasonal changes, I love Spring days like this and feel blessed to live here.
Shirley Temple, tea and Spring, complement each other so beautifully, so that’s the theme for today! Lets head out to my backyard and I won’t make you dance and skip or sing, but I do hope you’ll feel happier once you’ve had a cup of tea with me.
Today, both of my cats, Miss Bella and Sele are waiting for us and leading the way…

And of course we have to stop and smell the roses along the way…

These roses smell really creamy and buttery, just like their color.

And these roses smell like Valentine's Day cards and vintage lace

I ordered this tea two weeks ago and with perfect timing it arrived this last Saturday for us. This is how it arrived…I love this color blue, (would you consider it a “Robin’s Egg Blue”?) and beautifully decorated treats.

And look at the name of the tea…
I mean, come on, isn’t this the perfect tea for a Shirley Temple day; Blue Bird Morning Tea? ( The company who makes this, Flying Bird Botanicals has the most wonderful tea blends and this is definitely one of my favorites. Look at the beautiful herbs, flowers, spices and plants in this blend.
It tastes like sunshine and spring breezes to me…dusted with lemon.
So, now that you have wings and you’re ready for the day, be sure to stop by Kimmie’s at her blog “Art in Red Wagons” and visit the other tea participants waiting for you.

(A friend left a comment for my last “Tea on Tuesdays” asking how she could participate and if you want to find out more about it and how to participate, so if you’d like to find out more, just click on this link which will take you to Kimmie’s page about “Tea on Tuesdays” which will explain how to participate.)
Thank you so much for stopping by and enjoying a cup of tea with me on a perfect Spring day.

And of course, I had to include Shirley singing “Early Bird” for the day.

Thank you so much for sharing your tea and beautiful garden with us this morning. I was soaking it up to see me through until the sun finally shines here. I am beginning to think it never will again. It’s so gray and gloomy all the time. I read a couple of years ago that SW Pennsylvania has more overcast days than anywhere else in the country now. Yes….we’ve surpassed Seattle and it’s dreary reputation. What a thing to be known for.

captain january was my favorite shirley temple movie too… and your tea is perfect for a shirley temple day!
I am so glad you had joy as a child. I have never seen a Shirley Temple movie, so I guess I was missing out on a lot. But I’m not missing out on your garden, because I know how beautiful it looks in photos. And Bella and Sele leading the way make it even more enjoyable for both Bleubeard and myself.

thanks so much for making me smile and for bringing back such amazing memories!
I had a miserable childhood as well…I used to pretend when I watched Shirley Temple that I was her…she was always being adopted by people who loved her and the wicked people were “done in” lol.
I loved her in ALL of her movies….in my opinion there has yet to be another child actor/actress like her.
Your flowers were gorgeous too!
thanks for making my day!

Your garden is so beautiful! California is the perfect place to grow roses …. No frost! Every year we take an inventory of the roses we’ve lost …. Too many!!
Shirley Temple is a favorite of ours too. My great grandmother had her picture taken with her

Miss Bella and Sele, your coats are so shiny and sleek! Beautiful!
Wendy, I’m having trouble leaving you comments from my PC. It keeps telling me there’s a data error and then it eats my comment. But there’s no problem from my Mac. So I don’t know what that’s all about.

Dear Wendy,
What a fun tea! I grew up on Shirley Temple movies. I think today TCM is having a Shirley Temple marathon. I loved The Little Princess and Heidi. I love that dance scene with Bill Robinson where they tap dance on the stairs. I remember my Mom telling me that when she was growing up all the little girls wanted to have Shirley’s curls.
The tea looks beautiful and so do your roses! Looks like Bella and Sele enjoy them too!
Thank you for always leaving such sweet comments on my blog ~
Sending you hugs of happiness)

Happy tea time! I have purchased cacao from Flying Bird (lavender mint) and it’s really good. I used to have a Shirley Temple doll when I was young. In fact, when I was about 2 or 3 I had red curly ringlets just like Shirley (then my hair turned black…LOL) Theresa
