The Bounty and Blessings of Lughnasadh

I really have so much to be grateful for and am reminded of this especially today because some of us who are pagans/witches celebrate the bounty of Lughnasadh (pronounced “LOO-nə-sə;”.) In the Celtic Wheel of the Year today is known for celebrating the bounty of Summer before Autumn starts her dance on the wheel. It’s easy for me to be sad, it’s easy for me to be frustrated and it’s a lot easier for me and forget how to follow my “soul path” (a way of being that my good friend Lyn talks about.) Yet Lughnasadh fills me with a bounty of gratitude and beauty that I just can’t ignore.

I still suffer from horrible depression and I will never be grateful for having it and I don’t know anyone who does. But, sometimes I can sneak in between the darkness and light and am able to count my blessings. A temporary reprieve from depression.

Here are some of the blessings I’m thankful for:

My two cats, Bella and Sele who each day wake me with paws softly touching my face, basically to get me up to feed them, but I love when they do this.

A t.v. to watch the Olympics on (I know this may seem silly and trite to some, but I love watching the Olympics.)

I love the city I’m living in. When I found out I had to sell my house I could never have imagined moving to a city I’ve loved for years and being so happy.

Volunteering at the Ojai Raptor Center where I’m able to be up close to eagles, feed hawks and experience all the wonder and beauty of raptors.

My son, Alex who has really made the efforts to become close to me despite all the rockiness our relationship has taken in the past.

My friends who I’ve met through the blogging world who always know how to support me and fill me with hope and joy.

I have so many things to be grateful for really and today is a good day because I’m not socked with depression and am able to feel gratitude Tomorrow I may be depressed again, but today is all anyone has. Thanks to all of you who have been true friends and I hope that each of you may find something to be grateful for.

What is one thing you’re grateful for today?

Mabon

About Wendy S.

I'm slightly "mad" with a good shaking of whimsy thrown in for good measure. When I'm not up, I'm down and sometimes if I'm lucky I'm somewhere in between due largely to having Bipolar Disorder and crazy genes ; ) I'm pagan by nature and witch by choice and I have two very beloved and spoiled feline familiars, Miss Bella and her sister, Sele. Am I a crazy cat lady? I'm an introvert in the "real" world but I love meeting new friends especially in the blogosphere where I've been blessed to meet many of you. Please introduce yourself if you'd like so that we can get to know each other better, especially if you have a blog that I can visit. And thank you for flying the friendly skies of United Broom Stick Airlines with me. Hold onto your hat, it's going to be an interesting ride.

  1. Blessings of the First Harvest to you and the girls! I like watching the Olympics too, despite being a totally non-athletic slug in my own life, LOL!

    let’s see, what am I thankful for…..
not being married to my X
my children who are my life
my garden who’s flowers are bountiful this year
my sweetie, for without him i’d be lonely and sad
for my art which gives me more to do than I have hours or hands
my friends who keep me grounded and entertained
my cat who is becoming 10lb of fanged fury when it comes to the mole population!
my home where comfort and peace surround me
Washington where its soo much better to be a little wet and mossy than, hot, flooded or on fire!
there is a lot more I’m missing but you get the picture.
we both have a lot to be thankful for
we also have a lot to make us happy
they are little small things, we can overlook sometimes but they are always there
a lot of little small things add up, when the big things start to weigh you down, focus your attention smaller.
I am finding that if I can find 1 thing that has made me smile during the day, and focus on that,
the day was not a waste.
    Namaste Sister, be well

These are truly wonderful things to be grateful for, Wendy. :) I’d love to volunteer at a raptor center…how amazing that must be to be so close to these stunning creatures. And your sweet kitties love you to pieces. :) I love watching the Olympics, too. It’s not silly or trite at all. I ADORE it. :)
What am I grateful for today? That I have my hubby who loves me and my two furry babies here with me. My little guy has been very sick lately – so I appreciate all the more that I have him with me, safe and sound.
