To Honor the Mother…

Whether we had a tortured and bittersweet relationship with our mother or a sweet blessed one, we have one mother, the Great Mother whom we honor today. She lives in all of us and therefore it’s important to love and celebrate the mother aspect of ourselves, whether we’re male or female.

May the Mother bless you today and throughout your lives on this Mothers Day…

Charge of the Goddess ~Scott Cunningham~

I am the Great Mother, worshipped by all and

existent prior to their consciousness.

I am the primal female force, boundless and eternal.

I am the chaste Goddess of the moon,

the Lady of all magic.

The winds and moving leaves sing my name.

I wear the crescent Moon upon my brow and

my feet rest among the starry heavens.

I am mysteries yet unsolved, a path newly set upon.

I am a field untouched by the plow.

Rejoice in me and know the fullness of youth.

I am the blessed Mother, the gracious Lady of the harvest.

I am clothed with the deep, cool wonder of the Earth

and the gold of the fields heavy with grain.

By me the tides of the Earth are ruled;

all things come to fuition according to my season

I am refuge and healing.

I am the life-giving Mother, wondrously fertile.

Worship me as the Crone,

Tender of the unbroken cycle of death and rebirth.

I am the wheel, the shadow of the Moon.

I rule the tides of women and men and

give release and renewal to weary souls.

Though the darkness of death is my domain,

the joy of birth is my gift.

I am the Goddess of the Moon, the Earth, the Seas.

My names and strengths are manifold.

I pour forth magick and power, peace and wisdom.

I am the eternal Maiden, Mother of all, and Crone of darkness,

and I send you blessings

of limitless love.

About Wendy S.

I'm slightly "mad" with a good shaking of whimsy thrown in for good measure. When I'm not up, I'm down and sometimes if I'm lucky I'm somewhere in between due largely to having Bipolar Disorder and crazy genes ; ) I'm pagan by nature and witch by choice and I have two very beloved and spoiled feline familiars, Miss Bella and her sister, Sele. Am I a crazy cat lady? I'm an introvert in the "real" world but I love meeting new friends especially in the blogosphere where I've been blessed to meet many of you. Please introduce yourself if you'd like so that we can get to know each other better, especially if you have a blog that I can visit. And thank you for flying the friendly skies of United Broom Stick Airlines with me. Hold onto your hat, it's going to be an interesting ride.

You are the first to post about a mother who may not have been up to par… I have one who isn’t… I am going to say that maybe she is the way she is because she did not know how to be anything other than what she is… some aren’t meant to be mothers- some don’t have that nurturing instinct. Procreation is something most can do, tho to be a mother is more than just creating- its all the stuff that comes after that matters most.

      Hi Chrissy,
Believe me my mother and I had a huge struggle and it sounds like you also had a similar situation. It’s terrible to say, but I was only to appreciate the gifts my mother DID give me after she died. I needed that space and much time to heal before that happened, but the emotional scars will always be there. I absolutely agree with you that some women don’t make the best mothers. My mom was wonderful with other women, but to her own daughter, well…as you said perfectly some women just aren’t made to be mothers, at least of children. Thank you for sharing a bit about you and we’ll talk more and I’ll blog more about the lessons and “blessings” I’ve learned from my own. We have to stick together, right?

I absolutely LOVE the idea of “honoring the Mother within us” instead of our “Mother” (if, as you said, some of us, like me) have a Mother who is less than “motherly” or “mothering”…that was beautiful! THANK YOU!

  3. Wendy, how wonderful. Those images are absolutely breathtaking, and it’s always good to find some of Scott Cunningham’s words somewhere. Thank you for a lovely post.

  4. A beautiful post, Wendy — thank you! And isn’t Aaron Paquette’s art marvelous? He’s a young local aboriginal artist here in Edmonton. I’d love to own one of his paintings someday.
